AIMEN Publications
In March 2024, the Mari4_YARD coordinator AIMEN published the paper “Robotized technologies for enhanced shipyard operations: challenges and solutions” in the Green Manufacturing Open Journal.
Large component manufacturing heavily relies on manual operations and human labor. Implementing human-centric solutions in this industry can preserve valuable industry knowledge, enhance capabilities, and elevate job performance. In the realm of shipyard operations, AIMEN within the Mari4_YARD and PeneloPE projects has developed three robotic technologies: ABB™ and KUKA™ robot hand-guiding systems (HGS), a lightweight collaborative system designed for plasma cutting, and a cost-effective 3D projection system tailored for retrofitting purposes. These innovations have emerged from the open didactic factory, serving as platforms for swift technological progress. HGS can be integrated with ABB™ and KUKA™, and the 3D projection technology and lightweight collaborative system have proven to be economical solutions for small and medium-sized shipyards. Nevertheless, the transition to non-flat surfaces poses challenges due to geometric variations and disparities between the computer-aided design model and the physical component.
