In January 2023, the Mari4_YARD partner INESC TEC published the paper “Bin Picking for Ship-Building Logistics Using Perception and Grasping Systems” in Robotics 2023.

This paper addressed bin-picking problems in clutter environments using a standard robot manipulator with a parallel gripper, implementing a system based on deep learning techniques. The use of a neural network model trained with both real and simulated data allows enhancing the success rate from the previous classical segmentation, displaying an overall grasping success rate of 87.5%.
